Week 4: The Solar System

   What did you do in lab today? I learned that Pluto is now a dwarf planet for the main reason of Pluto not clearing the neighborhood which means it does not have gravitational dominance around their orbit. What was most helpful? The acronym to remember the order of the planets, My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nutella, was very helpful. What do you need more information on? The Plane of the Ecliptic and the Nebula are still a little confusing to me. What questions, concerns, and/ or comments do you have? None.

Week 3: Space: The Moon

 What did you do in lab today? What was the big question?  The moon takes 28 days to rotate and to revolve Revolve is around an object and rotate is on its axis Laws are proven with evidence theories are supported but can change Phases of the moon: New moon: we cannot see any of the moon being lit up by the sun Quarter or three-quarter moon: we can see a quarter of the moon but your mind may tell you it is half Full moon: We can see half the moon, the half facing Earth 2nd full moon in the same month is called the blue moon What did you learn in Thursday's discussion? https://docs.google.com/document/d/17ccWQ98xY5yoaOLPW8LIv4Ne2f5AhYOXhW6TGIx2fWs/edit?usp=sharing  Read the online textbook, Chapter 3: What did you learn? Read the online textbook Chapter 2: What did you learn? I learned there are magnetic radiation belts around Earth What was most helpful? I was unsure of why scientists believe Mars is livable and similar to Earth, but the textbook clarified that there are satelites and rovers on Mars to find out this information. Week 1: Sun, Earth, and the Moon

Week 1 How do the phases of the moon occur? The moon lights up at night because of how the sun shines on it as it orbits so different parts light up at different times depending on where it is in orbit.  Does not spin around earth consistently. Not on same plan, not in straight circle. We see sunlights reflection. Takes 28ish days to get around the Earth so every 28 days you see a different phase.  What causes seasons? Because the Earth is tilted, certain parts of the Earth get more sunlight at different parts of the year. One revolution is a year One rotaion is a day Have more direct sunlight during summer but farther away from Sun, in winter the we are closer to the sun distance wise but get less direct sunlight What causes a lunar eclipse? Occurs when the sun and the moon line up in the same spot at the same time. Earth's shadow completely covers the moon. Kind of behind/ under the Earth. Homework: 1. What did you do in lab today?
